Executive Q&A: Adam Powers, CTO
As CTO of Lancope, Adam Powers is a leading innovator in the development of flow-based network and security monitoring solutions. He possesses over a decade of operational and engineering experience in enterprise IP security technologies, including tenure as a Sergeant with the U.S. Marine Corps. Major IT Trends Facing Today’s Enterprises 1. What are the major IT trends that will affect enterprise network management and security in the future? The following three trends have already begun to make quite an impact on enterprise networks, but I believe their impact will continue to grow over the coming years. IT Consumerization:… READ MORENetFlow for PCI Compliance and Beyond
More and more, companies are recognizing the value of flow data for demonstrating compliance with the PCI DSS standard. Due to the broad range of network coverage and capabilities offered by flow-based technologies like Lancope’s StealthWatch, they provide a very efficient, cost-effective means of achieving and maintaining compliance with many of the PCI DSS requirements. Many organizations are also realizing that flow collection and analysis can do more than just help them comply, also significantly improving their network and security operations above and beyond the minimum requirements. Financial services is obviously one industry in which flow-based technologies are gaining increased… READ MOREBorderless Network Visibility with NetFlow @ Cisco Live 2010
Cisco Live 2010 is now underway! We've spent all weekend setting up and preparing for the thousands of Cisco users that will will descend on Las Vegas, Nevada this week. I'm excited! It's hard *not* to be excited when in Vegas! One of the big themes you'll be hearing a lot about this year is the arrival of a new network design principle called Borderless Networking. If you don't get a chance to drop by our booth to hear the full story, here's an abbreviated version... Cisco describes borderless networking like this: "Cisco Borderless Networks deliver the new workspace experience, connecting… READ MORECATEGORIES Virtualization

NetFlow support arrives for Xen Cloud Platform
Good news for Xen users, NetFlow support is on its way via Open vSwitch 1.0. This is the kind of NetFlow awareness we like to see. Note how "NetFlow" is mentioned first on the list of Open vSwitch 1.0's features - looks to me like the Open vSwitch guys realize the importance of flow-level accounting and visibility inside the vSwitch. This feature is a catch up feature for Zen as VMWare already offered NetFlow support via the Cisco Nexus1000v or Lancope's *free* FlowSensor VE virtual appliance. From vmblog.com article: "The goal is to build a production quality switch for VM environments that… READ MORECATEGORIES Virtualization

Lancope’s FlowSensor: Will it blend?
Quick FlowSensor Recap In case you're new to the Lancope product line, the FlowSensor is a low-cost network appliance designed to connect to a SPAN, tap, or mirror port on an Ethernet switch or router. The FlowSensor captures Ethernet frames and processes them into NetFlow v9 records which are then sent across the network to Lancope's StealthWatch NetFlow collector. It's a great solution for areas of your network where you don't have any NetFlow support or in situations where you're concerned with the impact of enabling NetFlow features in your router. The FlowSensor even comes in a *free* virtualized flavor suitable… READ MORECATEGORIES Virtualization
