Congratulations to Cisco and Sourcefire!

As many of you have already heard Cisco recently announced that it was acquiring Sourcefire. We had heard recently that Cisco was going to make a “big splash” in security and are not surprised by this acquisition as there are many viable reasons for it (market expansion, competitive pressures, thought leadership, etc.). We believe this is a great endorsement of the value and need in the broad market for security solutions…not only for what Sourcefire provides, but for what Lancope offers both independently and with partners like Cisco.

The acquisition of Sourcefire adds a team with deep security DNA to Cisco and will accelerate delivery of Cisco's security strategy of defending, discovering, and remediating advanced threats. With world-class research teams, increased intelligence and expanded threat protection, Cisco customers will benefit from continuous security in more places across the network. This acquisition reflects Cisco’s commitment to the security space, aggressive approach to building its security portfolio and credibility, and deep pockets to deliver this strategic vision.

Recognizing that Sourcefire’s leadership in IDS/IPS will enhance this component of Cisco’s threat defense solution, Lancope is excited about what this means for Cisco’s strengthened security portfolio and how this will further expand opportunities for Lancope. While Sourcefire has thrived in securing the perimeter, Lancope has excelled at delivering network visibility and security context throughout the internal network. Currently many of Lancope’s customers deploy StealthWatch alongside of Sourcefire and Splunk, as we complement these technologies to form a strong foundation of a layered security model.

Lancope’s StealthWatch is a core component of the Cisco Cyber Threat Defense Solution, and was recently named a Cisco SolutionsPlus Partner on the Global Price List, providing access to Cisco’s global channel community. As Lancope deepens its relationship with Cisco and we jointly deliver StealthWatch worldwide, we are excited that this acquisition will give Cisco, our largest business partner, more access/credibility within the security practice of our target customers.
