Big News Coming From Cisco: the Catalyst 3750-X is Getting NetFlow Support
We can't say much about it yet but Cisco's popular Catalyst 3750-X is getting a mechanism for enabling NetFlow v9 exports. This is big news for a lot of people given the fact that so many 3750-X switches are in the field. NetFlow's popularity and wide-spread acceptance within the network management community continues to grow. One sign of this trend is the growing number of software packages available to help test out your NetFlow collector or compare results between two competing NetFlow collection vendors. While these simulators can be useful for simple collector fuzzing or rate testing, there is nothing quite like an actual NetFlow pcap file played back into the collector with tcpreplay. This is Lancope's primary mechanism of testing StealthWatch. The flaw each of these generators share is an inability to create realistic "stateful" flow pairs. The NetFlow industry's more… READ MORELancope: The NetFlow Specialists
Nice article on Search Networking by Shamus McGillicuddy today about the power of NetFlow v9. Shamus gives shouts out to Lancope and our friends at Plixer for being "NetFlow Specialists". Sounds about right to me... "Some NetFlow specialists, such as Lancope and Plixer, have done a good job of tackling the extensible nature of NetFlow v9, but other vendors are still catching up, he (Jim Frey) said." If you look around you'll see a lot of NetFlow collection systems hitting the market. Everybody and their mother seems to be adding NetFlow support in one way or another - SIM vendors, NMS providers,… READ MORECisco’s New Catalyst 4500 Supervisor 7-E: Powerhouse NetFlow for Access and Aggregation
The Catalyst 4500 has always supported NetFlow if you added a NetFlow Services Card for about USD $2,000. Unfortunately the notion of adding a card to every chassis just to enable NetFlow didn't set well with a lot of customers and most 4K installations were blind spots as it relates to flow collection. This was a shame since the Cat 4k is typically located in the exact spot where you would want flow-level visibility - especially if your security minded. Well it appears that Cisco got the message and has added true Flexible NetFlow support to their latest installment in the Catalyst 4500… READ MORECATEGORIES NetFlow
