Lancope Launches Version 4.1 of StealthWatch System
ATLANTA, Ga., August 9, 2004
Lancope, Inc.®, the leading provider of behavior-based network integrity solutions, today announced the general availability of Version 4.1 of StealthWatch™ and the StealthWatch Management Console™. The StealthWatch system utilizes Network Behavior Anomaly Detection (NBAD) to reveal and resolve unnecessary network exposures before they become problems. Additionally, StealthWatch overcomes the challenges associated with traditional network security approaches to excel in the rapid detection, investigation, and containment of worms, internal misuse and other network anomalies. Offering improved visibility via new centralized dashboard, refined workflow and advanced threat detection algorithms, StealthWatch 4.1 enables network and security administrators to defeat emerging threats before they become crises.
“Today’s network and security administrators must understand and resolve network and security incidents within seconds. However, they are unable to detect undocumented threats with traditional solutions and they lack integrated, real-time insight into network health and security posture,” said Chris Hovis, VP of marketing and business development for Lancope. “Recently the Aberdeen Group reported that organizations on average suffer 22 hours of downtime and lose $2 million in revenue per worm outbreak. As an agentless network-based sensor with detailed host-level intelligence, StealthWatch 4.1 helps organizations cost-effectively reduce the number of incidents through early discovery and remediation of network risks. Equally important, StealthWatch provides rapid detection, adaptive mitigation and easy-to-use investigative workflow to dramatically shrink the time to successful resolution for those incidents that cannot be prevented.”
According to Eric Ogren, senior analyst at the Yankee Group, “Despite all the investment being made in perimeter defenses, enterprise networks remain vulnerable. Signature files and patches are inadequate protection. Even if perimeter systems are fully up-to-date, new attacks bypass signature files. Because only their authors know what forms these attacks will take, IT teams have no way of blocking them with signature files. Network Integrity solutions, like StealthWatch by Lancope, can deliver valuable network intelligence and provide a critical layer of protection while alleviating the expensive, maintenance-heavy approach employed today by most organizations.”
The StealthWatch system delivers four significant new capabilities in Version 4.1:
1. 3D StatusView Centrally Displays Security Posture and Network Health in Real-time
The StatusView is a dashboard presentation of key activity indicators across all network zones and monitoring points, which allows administrators to visually identify potential problems. Supporting drill-down analysis into warning indicators, the StatusView presents prioritized alarms as they are generated and provides a 3D view into traffic levels across the enterprise for effortless security posture and network monitoring.
2. Investigation Workspace Accelerates Incident Resolution
The Investigation Workspace provides immediate access to all data views created during incident investigation. This highly efficient display of data facilitates rapid resolution of network security incidents by allowing administrators to move easily between windows or simultaneously view tables and graphs during investigation.
3. Real-time HostIQ Delivers Host-level Risk and Network Impact Assessment
With StealthWatch, a network-based sensor that requires no agents, administrators can assess risks and network impact of incidents in real-time by querying for systems with particular behavioral characteristics, including Operating System, active ports, alerts or alarms. Administrators can generate comprehensive reports on individual hosts through the Real-time Host Snapshot, which provides valuable temporal, demographic and risk information regarding the status of the host.
4. New Detection Capabilities Defeat Emerging Threats
StealthWatch now offers several new alarms that enable administrators to easily identify significant network threats that go undetected with other approaches. These new detection capabilities allow customers to defeat rapidly propagating UDP-based worms, discover spyware and scanning activity, and pinpoint policy violations including Network Address Translation and Virtual PC software packages.
“Industry studies have shown that up to 50% of today’s security events go undetected by traditional security solutions. As a next-generation network integrity solution, StealthWatch operates as the eyes of ears of the network,” added Harland LaVigne, president and CEO of Lancope. “It shrinks the timeframe for gaining a thorough understanding of what is happening on the network as compared to what should be happening. Our rapidly expanding customer base, which includes Global 2000, government and higher education organizations, use StealthWatch to maximize network availability and all but eliminate millions of dollars in losses from incidents related to today’s evolving threat spectrum.”
