Lancope Recognized as Visionary with Greatest Ability to Execute in Gartner IDS Magic Quadrant

ATLANTA, Ga., April 19, 2004

Lancope, Inc., the leading provider of behavior-based threat defense and network intelligence solutions, today announced that it has been recognized as the Visionary with the greatest Ability to Execute in Gartner's Magic Quadrant for the Intrusion Detection System (IDS) market. Gartner’s positioning is an important validation of Lancope’s innovative approach and expanding leadership beyond the traditional IDS market and into the rapidly emerging Network Integrity market.

Gartner’s Magic Quadrant is a graphical portrayal of 12 vendor performances and capabilities in the IDS market segment, based on viability, service/support, features and functionality, and technology. “Completeness of Vision” is Gartner’s view of how well a vendor anticipates or leads the evolving enterprise demands for better security tools that enhance an enterprise's overall security posture, and “Ability to Execute” is Gartner’s determination of how well a vendor performs today and how well it is positioned for tomorrow.

StealthWatch by Lancope was recognized for its excellent network and event analysis capabilities with specific high vision marks awarded for its effective and efficient approach to tracking network usage and network debugging, which Gartner regards as one of the most-valuable features of any IDS.

“Lancope is pleased to be recognized by Gartner for our innovative network security solutions and track record of successful execution,” said Harland LaVigne, president and CEO of Lancope. “By evolving our leadership beyond IDS and into the growing Network Integrity market, Lancope continues to help customers stay ahead of the curve by optimizing their network and security operations.”

Lancope recently released StealthWatch System v4.0, which offers several substantial new features to help customers efficiently and effectively manage their network security. The upgraded StealthWatch System delivers advanced intrusion defense by extending beyond rapid detection of zero-day and known attacks to include flexible mitigation actions that defend the network core as well as the perimeter. With several new features, including integration with traditional signature-based IDSs, OS fingerprinting, and insightful advanced reporting, StealthWatch further optimizes the security, availability, and utilization of the network while leveraging organizations’ infrastructure investments.

Lancope’s rapidly growing base of enterprise, higher education, and government customers includes AGL Resources, Boyd Gaming, Chick-fil-A, Nielsen Media Research, Northwestern University, Rand-McNally, Stanford University School of Medicine, The Weather Channel, Naval Postgraduate School and Georgia Technology Authority.
