Rand McNally Selects StealthWatch by Lancope to Achieve Network Integrity
ATLANTA, Ga., February 24, 2004
Lancope, Inc., the leading provider of behavior-based threat detection and network intelligence solutions, today announced that Rand McNally has deployed StealthWatch on its network to detect zero-day attacks, expose unauthorized applications and misconfigured network devices, monitor network performance and deliver insightful forensic analysis. Rand McNally’s network supports approximately 500 remote and desktop users and a Data Center that drives its internal and external eCommerce sites, including educational and commercial trucking portals.
“Rand McNally initially looked to freeware intrusion detection systems, but realized that they created a mountain of information that was difficult to manage and interpret. In addition, they generated far too many false positives,” said Bob Wood, senior network analyst for Rand McNally. “We quickly realized that we needed a product, like StealthWatch, that could help us identify the most dangerous threats.”
He added, “StealthWatch offers the best capabilities for categorizing the threat level of network traffic. Its proprietary Concern Index correlates alarms with threat levels to indicate when malicious activity may be occurring. I found StealthWatch to be both intuitive and logical, as I easily navigated from a high-level view of security and traffic status indicators to the underlying insightful details.”
From a network perspective, Wood found value in StealthWatch’s forensic analysis. According to him, “Upon installation, StealthWatch immediately identified minor system misconfigurations on the network, such as DNS and WINS settings as well as various unnecessary applications. It even highlighted some interesting traffic for further investigation. We were able to fix a number of network problems during the evaluation period.”
“Rand McNally joins many prestigious organizations, including Nielsen Media, Boyd Gaming, and Northwestern University, in making StealthWatch an integral component of its network security infrastructure,” said Harland LaVigne, president and CEO of Lancope. “The addition of Rand McNally to our customer base demonstrates the growing acceptance of innovative network integrity solutions that deliver real-time network intelligence and threat detection without signatures.”
