Children’s Hospital and Health System Maintains High Level of Productivity and Network Security with StealthWatch

Lancope Provides Extensive Capabilities to Detect and Analyze Harmful Network Behavior

ATLANTA, JANUARY 10, 2006 - Lancope, Inc., the leading provider of network behavior analysis and response systems, today announced that Children’s Hospital and Health System in Wisconsin has deployed StealthWatch for internal network security and HIPAA compliance. Children’s Hospital and Health System relies on StealthWatch to identify and research network behavior anomalies that represent zero-day network attacks; locate misconfigured network devices; detect security policy violations; test firewall rules and perform network analysis. The award-winning StealthWatch System monitors over 200 servers and 2,500 workstations on Children’s Hospital and Health System’s enterprise network, which supports the main campus and hospital, two satellite hospitals, a health education center and more than 20 clinics.

“The benefits of StealthWatch are felt enterprise-wide, as it helps keep our network secure and our staff productive,” said Chuck Klawans, information security officer for Children’s Hospital and Health System. "The network team greatly benefits from StealthWatch’s time-saving capabilities for network and forensic analysis; the security team is more confident that network-related incidents can be detected and quickly corrected; and management can be kept better informed."

“At Children’s Hospital, we rely extensively on electronic records for treating patients; we cannot afford to have unnecessary network downtime. Because we must also comply with HIPAA standards for security to protect patient information, network security is extremely important to us. Not only does StealthWatch decrease network down time, but it also ensures better network security and protection of our patient records.”

According to Klawans, “After evaluating many top competitive products, Children’s Hospital and Health System chose StealthWatch for three main reasons. First, we liked StealthWatch’s approach to learning our network’s behavior and identifying network anomalies, instead of relying on signatures to identify network attacks. This reduces false positives and enables us to better identify and fend-off ‘day zero’ attacks, rather than wait for signatures to be released in order to identify potential attacks on our network. Second, we can protect our entire network with a minimum number of StealthWatch sensors. Third, StealthWatch is a tremendous tool for reviewing and analyzing network activity.”

“Before StealthWatch, potential attacks, such as Internet worms, were usually identified and tracked through manual reviews of firewall logs, and we lacked adequate forensic tools to quickly investigate network attacks. This approach was too difficult, time-consuming and imprecise to meet our needs. Now, StealthWatch automatically notifies us of potential breaches and provides actionable forensics and host intelligence. The ease and speed with which StealthWatch identifies problems is impressive.”

Klawans added, “StealthWatch is easy-to-use and requires little maintenance, yet provides extensive capabilities to detect and analyze potentially harmful network behavior.”

“The overwhelming and enthusiastic response that Lancope has received from healthcare industry leaders, like Children’s Hospital and Health System and Aurora Health Care, validates StealthWatch’s ability to deliver cost-effective, scalable internal network security,” said Harland LaVigne, president and CEO of Lancope. “Large enterprises find immediate return on investment in our agentless, signature-free approach, which leverages existing network infrastructure investments to protect enterprises from internal misuse and the known and unknown threats that circumvent traditional security controls .”
