Lancope® PRESS RELEASE
Lancope Issued Seminal U.S. Patent for Groundbreaking Flow-Based Detection of Network Intrusions
~Most Widely Deployed Network Behavior Analysis Solution Provider Gains Patent Approval~
Atlanta, February 27, 2007—Lancope, Inc., the provider of the StealthWatch™ System, the most widely used network behavior analysis (NBA) and response system, today announced that U.S. Patent No. 7,185,368 has been issued for the company’s innovative flow-based detection of network intrusions. This seminal patent covers Lancope’s groundbreaking approach to the field of network monitoring. In particular, the patent relates to StealthWatch’s inspection of all inbound and outbound network activity and identification of suspicious traffic behaviors, which are indicative of network attacks or intrusions. This pioneering use of flow data in StealthWatch provides unprecedented speed, accuracy and reliability for detecting and responding to network intrusions and abuse. In addition, Lancope has several other pending patent applications that further expand on the use of flow-based analysis for network security monitoring and related network operations.
“This patent covers the breakthrough technology within StealthWatch that uniquely addresses enterprise needs by providing real-time visibility into all aspects of networking operations, while minimizing service interruptions due to security events or unexpected network usage demands,” said Harland LaVigne, president and CEO of Lancope. “The granting of this patent demonstrates Lancope’s continued leadership of the NBA market and confirms our innovative and pioneering approach to ensuring network integrity.”
StealthWatch is the first and only flow-based solution to combine powerful network performance monitoring with real-time behavior-based anomaly detection to deliver total network visibility, ensuring security, performance and availability. Unlike traditional perimeter-based security technologies, this patented flow-based approach enables cost-effective protection of hosts and networks without requiring probes, agents or continuous signature updates. A proven solution, StealthWatch now protects more than 30 million hosts worldwide and is deployed at hundreds of enterprise organizations across a variety of industry verticals, including Financial Services, Manufacturing, Federal Government, Healthcare, Energy and Higher Education.
