Lancope® PRESS RELEASE
StealthWatch by Lancope Deployed by the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill
Behavior-based Network Intelligence Improves Network Health and Security Posture
ATLANTA, MAY 3, 2005 - Lancope, Inc., the leading provider of Network Behavior Analysis (NBA) and Response solutions, today announced that the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill’s Information Technology Services (ITS) has deployed StealthWatch as part of an overall network security strategy. By combining behavior-based network intelligence with rich contextual awareness of network traffic, StealthWatch significantly fortifies the University’s highly open, available and distributed network, which supports 40,000 students, staff and faculty, against new viruses, emerging threats and network misuse.
“UNC-Chapel Hill is a unique research and learning environment that enthusiastically supports innovative technologies,” said Doug Brown, manager of Security Resources for the ITS Information Security and Policy team at UNC-Chapel Hill. “We use StealthWatch’s ability to accommodate large volumes of data to understand network traffic at a higher level. The increased visibility contributes to the identification of infected machines and enables us to proactively plan for new applications and needs.”
StealthWatch is used to identify ‘needle-in-a-haystack’ events, which account for 50 percent of all security incidents. The ITS Information Security and Policy team deployed StealthWatch as one layer of the defense-in-depth strategy, which includes several network and security tools.
Harland LaVigne, chairman, president and CEO of Lancope, said, “UNC-Chapel Hill is the latest among a growing number of universities that are turning to StealthWatch for security through network intelligence. Because it performs exceedingly well in large, heavily trafficked, distributed networks, StealthWatch is a preferred enterprise network security solution to ensure network integrity.”
About StealthWatch System
The StealthWatch System, which includes StealthWatch, StealthWatch Xe, SW+T and StealthWatch Management Console, is the leading NBAD system that defends internal networks against zero-day attacks, internal misuse, and unnecessary network exposures. StealthWatch continuously monitors network behavior, detects anomalies, and isolates known and unknown threats. Expanding beyond the capabilities of traditional network security products, StealthWatch collects, categorizes and analyzes network traffic to create comprehensive security intelligence at both network and host levels. Providing a cost-effective, single point of reference for optimizing security and network operations, StealthWatch enables organizations to improve the network health and security posture of their networks.
