Detroit Tigers Select Lancope’s StealthWatch to Protect
Comerica Park Network
Increased Network Capacity for the Postseason Requires
Robust Protection
ATLANTA, October 4, 2006 - Lancope, Inc., the provider of StealthWatch(TM), the most widely used network behavior analysis (NBA) and response solution, today announced that the Detroit Tigers deployed the StealthWatch System to protect the Comerica Park network from internal and external threats.
“As the Tigers head into the postseason we are providing four times the network capacity we did for last year’s All-Star game,” said Scott Wruble, director of IT for the Detroit Tigers. “We needed a robust system to monitor and protect our network investment and Lancope has come to our aid in a pinch, getting StealthWatch up and running quickly.”
The Tigers have a diverse network supporting a wide variety of systems and applications, including point-of-sale, ticketing, baseball operations, media connectivity and corporate users. They also utilize the network to stream live video feeds to the Major League Baseball server throughout Tigers’ games. During the playoffs, the Tigers expect more than 600 media users and at least 80 corporate users, many of which will be using the Tigers’ network to send and receive rich media files.
“The All-Star game produced substantial traffic and we have added DS3 capability to the park’s network to accommodate the spike in traffic we expect with the playoff games,” said Wruble. “We want to avoid any network downtime as a result of online threats, viruses, worms or misuse that could occur from such a wide range of people accessing the network. We expect StealthWatch to examine traffic and block anything malicious.”
In addition to collecting NetFlow and sflow data, StealthWatch collects native flow data to provide more detailed coverage and greater packet inspection for sensitive areas of the network. It also captures and summarizes transaction records for all network communications to enable powerful forensic analysis and expedite incident investigation and remediation efforts. Overall, the StealthWatch System reduces risk and helps ensure compliance with security and network usage policies.
According to Wruble, “Our IT staff will be very busy during the playoffs so we are relying on StealthWatch to not only secure our network, but also to help optimize network performance. Our parent company, Ilitch Holdings, has had a positive experience with StealthWatch and that gave us the confidence to use it on our network. As we head into the postseason, we intend to become more familiar with the product and eventually tap into StealthWatch as a network management tool.”
“We are thrilled to support the Detroit Tigers during the playoffs with cost-effective, scalable network security,” said Harland LaVigne, president and CEO of Lancope. “Our agentless, signature-free approach leverages existing network infrastructure investments to protect against internal misuse and the known and unknown threats that circumvent traditional security controls. It is an ideal solution to protect the added network capacity the Tigers are providing during the postseason.”
