Lancope Receives “Positive” Rating in Leading Analyst Firm’s Network Behavior Analysis MarketScope Report

ATLANTA and STAMFORD, CONN., November 30, 2006 — Lancope, Inc., the leading provider of StealthWatch™, the most widely used network behavior analysis (NBA) and response solution, today announced that the company received a “Positive” rating in Gartner’s “MarketScope: Network Behavior Analysis, 2H 2006.”ˆ  Previously, in its December 2005 Gartner Research Note “Use Network Behavior Analysis for Better Visibility Into Security and Operations Events,” Gartner had listed StealthWatch a pure-play NBA product.

“We are proud to be included in this highly-visible industry report,” said Harland LaVigne, president and CEO of Lancope. “We believe Gartner’s ‘Positive’ rating further confirms Lancope’s position in this emerging market and demonstrates our ongoing commitment to provide customers with solutions that cost-effectively unify as well as optimize behavior-based anomaly detection and network operations.”

The evaluation criteria for Gartner’s Network Behavior Analysis MarketScope Report includes customer experience, product strategy, overall viability, market understanding, product feature set and market responsiveness and track record.

Lancope delivers best-of-breed, flow-based, enterprise solutions that enable security and network operations teams to save limited resources by:

  • STREAMLINING the optimization of security and network operations into one process.
  • REDUCING the time and resources allocated to separate processes.
  • ELIMINATING the cost and complexity associated with non-integrated point solutions.

In its report, Gartner states, “The one area in which NBA vendors had clear advantage over the signature-based products was in addressing ‘zero-day’ vulnerabilities. There's no magic in NBA detection mechanisms to detect zero-day threats, but they can help an organization catch an infection early and limit the impact.”  In addition, Gartner reveals that “about 80% of organizations report that they justify and purchase these [NBA] tools for security reasons, but many seasoned users report that they derive 80% of the value in an operations context.”

Gartner predicts that the NBA market will rise 30% in 2007 and the demand for NBA functionality will grow through 2010 as organizations look for technology to fill the gaps in their comprehensive enterprise monitoring.
