The idea that IDSs are doomed to failure does not gain much support from many in the industry. Chris Hovis, vice president of marketing and business development with Lancope, agrees that there have been problems associated with traditional network-based IDSs, such as false positive overload, issues detecting unknown threats, operational challenges in high-speed environments, and difficulties in managing some traditional signature-based solutions.
